NYC….brrrrrr
Been quite a few days of traveling with Tim doing photographer/tourist things all around. Taken about 30 gigs of photos in less than a week without any special photoshoots. Well our first stop was NYC and it couldn’t have been a colder choice. We left DC at 5am and drove to NYC without any problems on the roads (even though it snowed the day before, and the temperature was below freezing).
When we arrived in NYC, the temperature was 9 F (-12 C), but with the wind chill factored in we were looking at -2 F (-19 C). So it was A LOT colder than what we had anticipated. Walking around taking photos didn’t sound too appealing all of the sudden. We ended up walking around NYC with two pairs of socks and two layers of gloves. Holding a metal bodied D2x didn’t help the situation either.
Anyways…we spent 2 days, 2 nights in NYC. Here are some photos with captions of the story behind them.
first shoot in NYC, upper west side under some bridge, got to love 11mm
Snowy playground just by Lombardi's pizza place…got to love their meatball pizzas
Hotel on 44th st with an actual view.
Firetrucks and firemen working around Time Square, f2.8 on the tokina came in handy
More fire mayhem
more fire
Grand Central…wedding photographers' popular location
In our two days we also met up with a good photography friend and local wedding/event photographer Alan Klein. Also just to explain, there would’ve been a lot more photos had Tim and I decided not to go on a night around the town.
We walked 20 blocks around the Soho area looking for the Apple Store (at 1am) and in the process went to 6 bars, 1 pizza place and 1 hotdog stand. Ended up with lots of receipts…empty wallets…and a bad hangover for the next drive back to DC.
The original plan was to drive to Brooklyn bridge for morning shots, but ended up driving around trying to look for petrol (not that many petrol stations around brooklyn). We ended up in some very dodgy areas of brooklyn or queens as well…metal window grids and graffitti everywhere. The original plan also included lunch in philly and dinner in baltimore….surfice to say neither happened…we were more than happy to just be back home in DC. Overall though NYC was short, quick, hectic, fun and fabulous.
