Photoshoot: Booshie Designs (pt-2)
Continuing on with part 1 post from the shoot with Ginger. Ginger designed these 2 custom dresses especially for this shoot. These shots were taken individually with, Katelin and Madeline. Natasha came on board to style and pin the dresses. Warren came up with the amazing makeup and MASSIVE hair, absolutely love it.

I quite enjoyed this series as I was really able to play with the lighting. For this series, I used a combination of strobe and hot lighting to freeze the motion as well as capturing motion blur.
Hit the link for more pics and lighting set up at end.

Madeline modelled this komono inspired dress while Katelin was draped in the more classic orange and red piece…love the colour combinations.

I used the same lighting set up with Katelin as well. as her dress was heavier…it was a bit harder to capture the motion but we were able to pull it off to get the blur.

Little did I know, Warren had put a teabox in Katelin’s hair to build up the height.

This was a brilliant shoot. Lots of fun and laughter and I’m quite happy with these results as well. A great team pulling together to get fab results. Excellent.
A little bit on the lighting. I used a beauty dish with AB800 high up a bit to cam left. The beauty dish was gridded so that the spread only reached to the model’s waist area. Then I used the modelling light from another AB800 down low to light the bottom of the dress. I had to flag the low light to make sure it didn’t spill on to the model’s upper body to create unneccessary blur.
Using a slow shutter speed, 1/1.5 and the appropriate ISO/aperture, I figured out the amount of blur I needed from the hot modelling light. Then I simply tweaked the strobe light to freeze the model’s upper body motion.
A big fan was used to create dress movement. Due to the coluor difference of the hot light (warm yellow) and strobe (cool blue) I had to create a colour gradient in post processing to even things out.
Hope that explains everything. great team and lots of fun as always.

[...] Loved this shoot, big thanks to katelin and chris for hosting the shoot..and for the pizzas and beer…this is only part one of the photos. We also have the other two dresses with fantastic lighting set up which I love, it’s frozen with movement in the wind. Those should be ready in the next couple days. Part two up now. [...]
