Photoshoot: Michael Young (pt-1)
With the new home studio, I’ve been planning and cramming as many shoots as possible, 5 shoots this past week. I am now finishing with the photos and just need to catch up with all the post processing before the next batch of shoots come this coming weekend (got 2 on sunday).
Anyways, to kick things off, I will start with the first shoot with Michael Robert Young, a model with T.H.E. Artist Agency in Georgetown. T.H.E. is one of the more prominent agencies in the DC metropolitan area, they also cover Richmond, Baltimore and bits of NYC as well. Michael had recently signed up with T.H.E. and is looking for basic natural beauty shots for his portfolio. Monae Everett of Monae Artistry came on board as the MUA and hair stylist. Tru came on board to assist me with the lights and details.

I have been mostly specialising in female high fashion models and less of the commercial photography and little-none of male fashion. So coming into this shoot it was a bit of a double whammy for me. But I’m quite happy with the results for a first go. Hit the link for more photos.

With commercial shoots, they are more casual and have to show off the models regular day to day emotions and less posed like with fashion shoots. They are almost candid shots. The top two are just two quick selections. These were taken with a single gridded beauty dish on the model and a softbox on the background.

Wish male models, to show off the figure, Michael needed some basic body shots. These couple were taken with the single beauty dish gridded and pulled quite a bit back. The higher the light, the greater the shadow to show off muscle tone.

To prep for these shots, Michael did a few quick push ups and crunches so that he didn’t need to flex so much during the shoot, this helped with his expressions.
After these basic shots, I couldn’t help shooting something a bit more on the fashion/artsy side of things in studio and we ended up with theses two quick portraits which I quite like.

These two were simply with the beauty dish gridded and really close up to the model. If you were curious, Michael brought his wardrobe and I picked out the shirts and things. Really quite like the pearl button shirt.
After these we went outside for a few nice pleasant casual day shots simialar to the one below:

With all this done, we still had sometime when we finished with these looks…so we did some more editorial looks outside. Those will come in part two of this shoot.
