Fashion Fights Poverty
In recent years DC has started to bloom as the next stage for East Coast fashion. Sure, DC doesn’t compare to either nYC or Miami for size or publicity, but the fashion community here is a tight knit group where everyone knows you for good or bad. Some of the biggest contributors of this growth comes from the various fashion shows in the area such as DC and NoVA fashion week. However, one of the lesser publicized shows which really brings ‘high fashion’ to the DC area is Fashion Fights Poverty (FFP).
This year is FFP’s 5th year in the DC area and I had the pleasure of attending their opening launch event at L2 in Georgetown. Taimur was also showing his clothes at this event. FFP has been “one of the largest fashion fundraisers in DC” according to the Washington Post and Biz Bash magazines. At this particular event I met some of the great local talents such as James Cornwell (mua/hair/stylist, Fashion BS. who I’m working with on two separate shoots), Krystal Ugo (Stylist and T.H.E. modelling agency), Tim Coburn (amazing photographer), Elain Mensah (Fashion BS, Svelte TV), Kate Michael (District Dish) and many more. These are the movers in the DC fashion scene.
Be sure to check out their respective sites!
And also check out the FFP page, I hope to shoot their book next year
