Tip of the Week: Adding Skin Tone

Jan 2, 2011 by     6 Comments    Posted under: Retouching, Tip Of The Week

A quick and easy one for Tip of the Week this time around.   Oftentimes after a fair bit of processing my models tend to look a little flat along with the rest of the image.   And one of the easiest and one of my favourite steps for curing this mundane flatness is adding a little bit of tone through overlay layer blending.

It’s all rather easy, though the difference may not show as black and white through the video, when you do play around with it at home you can tell the difference.  Now jump to the video and enjoy.

As this is a new blog series, any feedback would be appreciate it.  Leave me a comment below, or if you have any questions or if there is anything I did not cover, feel free to drop me a line below and I would be happy to answer.   In the meanwhile check out our other Lighting Of the Fortnight tutorials,  Photo Breakdowns and past photoshoot recaps.  Enjoy

  • Nice tut! My tip of the week is holding down the Alt key while adding a layer mask will create an inverted mask. That way you don’t have to create one and iverting it. Save one step!

  • Thanks Vik! all the useful PS shortcuts…still up at this hour?!
