Vainstyles Photoshoot with Chris Riggi and Dee Vazquez

A few months back I photographed Actor Chris Riggi and TV/radio personality Dee Vazquez for Vainstyles‘ Fall fashion launch. Chris is one of the leads from the Vampire Sucks (Twilight spoof). Dee is a big media resource for hip-hop music, you can check out her blog for the newest music. This is the autumn fashion issue for Vainstyles, their previous issue had featured Lady Gaga before her big break.

We photographed at a hotel on the lower East side. It was a busy fun shoot and a big shout out to the team a big thanks to my assistant for the day Tegan. Check out the results below:

Post processing, portfolio development, campaign photos, gallery showing

Anyways…been slacking on the blog as I’m shooting and processing all the time. I find myself sitting in front of the computer too often nowadays. Oddly enough (sitting in front of computer all day) was one of the reasons I didn’t want to go into engineering. But I suppose there is the difference of looking at gorgeous model photos or CAD diagrams. Here is a random jibberish update of what’s been happening in the life of Bo.

So in the past couple weeks, I’ve been updating my processing technique. My skin post editing technique has always been changing and each time I feel i’m 95% there, only to learn something that completely blows my mind and make me realise how shit my previous method was. My new method is great for skin, I absolutely love it. The two downsides are that it takes about 3hrs on average to edit one close up beauty shot thoroughly, and also the resulting PSD file range between 850mb to 1.3GB per file. Yes, per file. That’s pretty big considering I’m shooting on a D2x (12.5MP) with an average 10mb raw file size.

Also I’ve been looking to see which direction my portfolio needs to be headed so I’m doing more and more clean beauty shoots to get more and more faces and resulting in images which I will still be happy or at least vaguely satisfied with in 6 months time. So honing my style and shooting more and more higher standard photos.

Aside from going to a couple of the shows during NY Fashion Week, I also collaborated with an old friend Taimur Baig to shoot the campaign for his upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 line. This particular shot (above) was featured in a full page AD in Iconography Magazine. You can check out another shot from the campaign on my home page.

With DC fotoweek coming up, I’ve been asked to exhibit one of my photos in an art exhibition. It’s a really intriguing project pairing up photographers up with artists (painters, sculpters etc) who will make a piece of art inspired from one of the photographer’s pieces. The gallery reception will be on the 11th of November I believe. Trying to get my pic framed and everything ahead of time. Will keep you all posted with the event, hope to see you there.

New York Fashion Week: Perry Ellis, Tibi, Bobbi Brown, Frank Rizzieri, Kevin Ryan

Ok. NYFW…doesn’t need much introduction other than it’s also known as the MB Fashion Week. This year it’s been held at the Lincoln Center and as of the writing of this entry, the FW is still on. I’ve had the fortune to attend two big shows so far, Perry Ellis (courtesy of Svelete TV & Taimur Baig, hot campaign photos with this team, more about that later) and Tibi (courtesy of Iconography magazine, keep a look out for FW special very soon). In addition, I also had the fortune of going back stage on the Tibi show to interview the designer herself Amy Smilovic, who was such a great friendly person. Furthermore, I met and interviewed Bobbi Brown and Frank Rizzieri & Kevin Ryan. Needless to say it was an amazing experience. O did I mention I got to sit on the 2nd row of the Tibi show. Here is a closing video I shot. More details on everything to come very soon.

Fashion Week Delays and NY updates

Ok so again…it seems like I’m apologizing at the beginning of every blog for not updating it regularly. I’ve been overwhelmed with photo editing for some lookbook and magazine work rolling out in the next few weeks. I’m rather excited to be in NY this time around to be actually in NEW YORK during Fashion Week. As excited as I am I’m completely clueless about what’s going to happen during fashion week. As I’ve learned so far, there are loads of models in NYC but they are all busy. The couple weeks prior to fashion week all the models are at castings and the week of fashion week it’s a matter of how lucky you are. So how does this effect me? Well I’ve drawn out a list of To-Dos which do not involve models ranging from marketing to processing to business management. So needless to say, I’m itching to shoot as my studio sits empty.

Hey everyone,

Again apologies for the lack of posts, this month has been busy busy for me. Loads of traveling and photoshoots and tests. Here is a behind the scenes video and interview from my rebranding and lookbook shoot with L~Shandi Designs. You can hear all about Lara, the designer for L~Shandi Designs, from her inspirations and thoughts on fashion on the interview with Kate Michael of K Street Kate and The District Dish, the two leading sources in DC for everything a socialite needs to know. (PS. Kate is also former Miss DC and a bombastic model as well). I’m in the process of editing the photos…they should be coming soon on Lara’s site! Keep watching this space. Worn Magazine Interview

ICONOGRAPHY MAGAZINE EDITORIAL

Good things come to those who wait. The new issue of ICONOGRAPHY just came out with an editorial I shot Feb/March this year. This was a pom-pom story working with Isabelle of Tres Urban Chic and LaTonya Winters, and Stephanie Hernandez of PR @ Partners We worked with Jessica and Gabby for the shoot. We went for something playful with Isabelle coming up with the great idea of paper Pom Poms. Jane, my intern, helped me out immensely by making majority of those pom poms.

Isabelle’s selection of cupcakes and polkadots worked wonders with the party theme. Along with fabulous hair and moody eyes, it all brought the story together. That’s one of the main reasons I love working as a fashion photographer, it simply allows all the creative minds to come together!

Great Job Team and thanks a bunch to Iconography for such a great opportunity!

Interview with DC50 TV’s DC On Heels

This past week, I was part of a DC Fashionista event for the premiere of Sex and the City 2. The event was hosted at DC Photo Coop and led by Abigail, founder of DC fashionistas.
