So Stephanie was entering into a Sebastian competition which is a hair products company.  And this competition is held annually to showcase hairstyles using Sebastian products and also national hairstyling talents.   The theme for the competition is ‘Textures’ and we were working with Zaya of THE Artist Agency.  This was actually my first time working with Zaya.

In the Studio, we were working with several different hair styles.  Similar to a fashion shot or design shot where you are showcasing the clothes or the model, in this case we were showcasing the hair.  So with the hair, I kept it simple with one big light high up to camera left to light the hair and also to give more shadows on Zaya’s face to show off Zaya’s intense bone structure.  At the same time for the background, there is one light on the background with a big flag to create the gradient.  This was working with Zaya, it was great fun and we entered the competition and we will see what the results are.

This was also my first time working with James Cornwell, who is an amazingly quick makeup artist who did a great job with Zaya.   I think it’s difficult working with Asian models.  Unlike Caucasian or black models, Asian models don’t tend to have the deep eye socket and eye realty to work with.  Here are some pics from the shoot.   Enjoy.
